Series Overview
Strictly speaking, the foundational concept of the Lift Arm was pioneered by British brand Alfred Dunhill and gained global popularity in the 1920s.
However, Evans did not simply copy the design; he made key structural modifications: while Dunhill's flint wheel was positioned horizontally (requiring lateral actuation), Evans' designers innovatively reoriented the flint wheel and flint tube vertically and redesigned the spring linkage.
This modification successfully bypasses Dunhill's early patents, resulting in a separately granted invention patent that reconfigures the internal mechanical routing within established industry concepts.
